For over 30 years, Second Person Plural Ltd. has been active in two areas:
Systems Analysis and Development
and
Management Training and Consulting
Our goal has always been to find better (i.e., more effective, more
efficient and more comfortable) ways of working together. Our process is
to understand what people do in their work and propose changes that will
reduce effort while accomplishing more in the same time or less.
With a background in classical Systems Analysis, our
focus is not just on developing computer systems, but in improving the
work-flow and business processes that surround them. We challenge our
clients to think in new ways and help them to adopt what they are
comfortable with. Growth, both in human terms and in business, is often an
incremental process. Our job is to keep the process alive.
Over the years, we have:
assisted many organizations to change their processes
and their working relationships
trained many hundreds of individuals in better
leadership, management and problem-solving skills
developed dozens of systems for large and small
computers, from machine downtime analysis for an oil-sands project to a
Human Resources & Benefits system for a corporate head office
helped many organizations, both private and public,
to write and maintain their policy and procedure manuals
served as Acting Managers for organizations needing
extra time to properly select a full-time employee
designed and conducted our own public seminars on
interpersonal communications, leadership, interviewing, and writing
procedure manuals
conducted courses for other associations, societies,
and institutions, and
provided many, many hours of in-house training, on subjects as diverse
as manuals, systems and computers, and working relationships and team
building.

Biography of Reg Brehaut
Reg Brehaut, a professional management
consultant, systems analyst and staff trainer, has provided services to
businesses and public organizations in Calgary, in Alberta, and elsewhere
in Canada and the U.S. The president of Second Person Plural Ltd., he has
been active in management,
supervision, and systems for over 30 years.
After training as a programmer and systems analyst, Reg worked for nearly
5 years in a line department, supervising staff in the use of a
computerized information system, developing new forms and procedures, and
participating in major re-designs of the system. He then returned to
university and earned his Masters degree.
On graduation, Reg founded Second Person Plural Ltd. and began developing
systems in a way that takes into account the human needs of the people who
will be using it. He has developed systems for accounting, human resource
management, retail point-of-sale, machine maintenance and down-time
reporting, and even insurance quotations, for large and small
organizations, on large and small computers. In the mid-1980s he spent
nearly two years in Saudi Arabia where, as a senior systems analyst, he
developed documentation, forms and screens, and designed and conducted
training for a major new information system. Soon after his return to Canada, Reg was invited
to join the Faculty of Management at the University of Calgary, where for
four years he instructed courses in management information systems.
Besides working as a hands-on systems analyst, designer, and programmer,
Reg has designed and presented workshops that are an effective blend of
needed theory and practical application. These courses cover many aspects
of systems and management, including systems analysis, forms design,
procedure writing, an introduction to microcomputers, and working
relationships. For many of these courses, he has written extensive
original material including Writing Encouraging Manuals
and Conducting Encouraging Training, both in-depth reference manuals to
accompany two of his popular courses.
For over 15 years, Reg conducted courses in the Management Development
Certificate Program at the University of Calgary where he was three times named
an outstanding instructor. He has also taught Information
Technology in the Organization, an exploration of the role IT departments
and professionals can and should play within their organizations. He has
instructed at the Management Centre of Mount Royal College and across
the U.S. for the Association for Systems Management. More recently, Reg has been instructing Business Writing
in the Accelerated Accounting program at SAIT Polytechnic.
Reg was one of the first Security Volunteers for the 1988
Winter Olympics, for over two years assisting Calgary Police Services in
recruiting other volunteers and developing a system for managing the
information required to effectively provide security during the Games.
More recently, he was a volunteer member of the organizing committee for
the 16th World Petroleum Congress.
Reg has held executive offices in the Calgary chapters
of the Association for Systems Management, the Alberta Society for Human
Resource and Organization Development, Toastmasters, and the Business
Forms Management Association. He has also been a featured speaker for many
other associations, societies and conferences.
